DD killed my partition table – Raspberry Pi woe’s

This post is a small mental note – a solution for a problem. For the third time I have killed an sd card by using the command dd. (they say something about donkeys – ezels in Dutch) You use dd to copy – but it can destroy without mercy. I followed the instructions on how […]

Software & Open Hardware – reprogramming MakeyMakey on Linux

Often in Open Hardware projects you have a direct link with software. Depending on the project, the connected software is more or less multiplatform. The more “public friendly’ your open hardware project, apparently the harder it becomes to get support for Linux. Or your project is so specific, it runs only on particular systems, under […]

Looking for a needle in a haystack – or where’s Wally the component?

For a few years now, I have a Zoom H2 audio recorder, with several microphones. It records really nicely.

Last week I wanted to fire it up again, to record my neighbours chickens. I turn it on. Nothing. Change batteries, nothing. But it does seem to rattle slightly when I move it.

Time to take it apart.

St-Erme day 3

Today the theme with Nicolas Collins is toy hacking. Some people really took off and made a lot of hacked toys. Some got frustrated, because the toys die, or they cannot be hacked or they just had enough – which is fine of course. Some people did put the challenge quite high. We started the […]

St-Erme day two

Here is a general overview of day two: 16 Everyone made great electret microphones – and we all put our fantom power setup in a small box – which we found lying around in Paf. 17 Two workshop participants spent almost the whole afternoon and evening under the pingpong table – attaching their freshly made […]
